Applying the method and framework of analyzing conformity- contradiction in this article, the characteristics of available ways for institutionalizing have been compared with those of reforming consumption pattern. At the end, the analysis of proper instruments for reforming consumption pattern has been presented.
The most essential findings of the article indicate that we can use all three ways for institutionalizing optimum consumption pattern: setting laws and regulations, punishing, and encouraging the people for practicing optimum consumption pattern in the short run; leading people’s behaviors toward the desired pattern by using their social and internal motives through establishing norms according to the pattern in the middle, and informing the people and letting them follow the optimum pattern, in the long run. In this situation, it is more decisive to succeed in institutionalizing the optimum consumption pattern. It is necessary to utilize different instruments for institutionalizing the optimum consumption pattern.
